Compare — generic php and laravel provisioner

WPShift vs Ploi.

Ploi is a clean, developer-friendly server provisioner with a growing WordPress feature set. It still treats WordPress as one of many supported stacks.

WPShift goes deeper on WordPress, with native plugin, theme and wp-config management plus an AI Copilot that executes operations.

Both provision Nginx, PHP, MySQL, PostgreSQL and Redis on your own cloud account, and both price independently of server size. The gap opens after provisioning: migrations, caching presets, mailboxes and monitoring.

Choose WPShift if

  • 01

You want WordPress tooling that is finished, not beta

One-click site creation, a plugin and theme update manager and a validated wp-config editor are core WPShift screens. In Ploi, WordPress creation is in beta and the rest is manual or absent.

  • 02

You migrate and stage without checklists

The Companion migration plugin imports a live site, and cloning gives you a staging copy. Ploi has neither.

  • 03

You need domains, email and DNS in one dashboard

Mailbox creation per domain, IMAP, POP3 and webmail, SPF, DKIM and DMARC configured for you, and per-site SMTP. Ploi does not cover domains or email.

  • 04

You want caching, monitoring and an AI Copilot wired up

FastCGI cache with WP Super Cache and WooCommerce presets, magic logins, uptime and PageSpeed monitoring with AI-explained alerts, and a Copilot that executes commands. None of these are in Ploi.

When not to choose WPShift

  • 01

You run multiple PHP frameworks side by side

Ploi covers Laravel, Statamic, generic PHP, and more. WPShift covers exactly one framework, deeply.

  • 02

You prefer fewer opinions about WordPress

WPShift wires up Redis object cache, FastCGI page cache, and WP-aware defaults out of the box. If you want to assemble those yourself, a generic provisioner gives you more rope.

Pricing, side by side.

WPShift and Ploi both price by plan rather than server size, and with both you pay your cloud provider directly for the machine. WPShift plans run from €5.99 to €29.99 per month; a capable WordPress server starts at around €5 per month on Hetzner or $6 per month on DigitalOcean.

On WPShift the plan also covers DNS, mailboxes with IMAP and webmail, eight backup storage destinations, monitoring and the AI Copilot, with every feature on every plan. We have not listed Ploi’s prices here; check their site for current figures.
